Excavations of Artsakh's Tigranakert
The cave-temple and irrigational complex near the Artsakh's Tigranakert had been researched and excavated in June of 2006 by archeological expedition of Artsakh (archeologist Hamlet Petrosyan, architect Liuba Kirakosyan). The excavation were initiated and sponsored by Union of Public organizations for repatriation and settlement "Yerkir".
It consists of a church carved into a rock near the Khachen River, entrance-room and graveyard, a complex of water pipes and tunnel carved into the rock. There is a rout carved through the rock toward sanctuaries. The walls of the complex are covered with numerous cross compositions, Armenian and Greek inscriptions. The preparation of a book based on the results of the archeological expedition is in process.
